The Light in the Piazza

Sumptuous and thought-provoking: a warm-hearted look at life and love

Set in Italy in the 1950s, The Light in the Piazza follows Americans Margaret Johnson and her daughter Clara as they take in the sights of sun-drenched Florence. But a chance encounter with a young Italian forces Margaret to think about both Clara’s future and her own. With an ambitious score that blends opera and musical theatre, The Light in the Piazza is a musical delight. The Broadway production won six Tony Awards and five Drama Desk Awards.

In this new production, opera legend Renée Fleming makes her London stage debut as Margaret, supported by Disney star Dove Cameron as Clara, as well as the 40-piece orchestra of Opera North. Rob Houchen, Celinde Schoenmaker, Liam Tamne, Marie McLaughlin and Malcolm Sinclair also star in Daniel Evans’s production.
